How to Get a Free Trial/Blog Transfer on Xanga 2.0
This message is for all of you who have or are making plans to relocate.
While the “free trial” option has not been presented and the only guaranteed blog transfers are for those who pay the new annual fee or are a current or former premium member, there is a way to still get those things without being in those groups.
That way is through using your available Xanga “credits”. You can still purchase premium using your credits: 1 month for 4000 credits, and 6 months for 15000 credits. We are now in July, so this is the time to make use of your credits if you have them. I tried it out, and it works fine.
In lieu of credits, 1 month of premium is $4, so that is another way to ensure your blog transfers if you don’t already qualify, which is really similar to my proposed “Save Free Xanga Plan”, which has them charging folks a nominal fee to keep their blogs online.
Put those extra credits to work!
Note: Since We still have no idea if Xanga 2.0 will be a reality, if you go for the “cash” option, it’s best not to go past $4, since that is what you’ll be standing to lose if Xanga terminates.

That’s an excellent idea. I have to see if I have enough credits but this way my blog gets transferred for free.
Can crdits be transfered from one person to another?
cool to know. thank you.
If you’re a lifetime premium member, will you have to pay the new annual fee?
@whyzat - I think you can “transfer” credits by leaving minis on other users’ posts. I don’t think there’s a simpler way, but perhaps I’m wrong.
I thought I heard it before that it would only apply to people who had previously purchased Premium. I wonder if they’re extending it to those purchasing Premium now. There’s really nothing to lose by using those credits at this point, but I wonder… Of course, this could just be a misunderstanding on my part (or something I just made up in my head) and not a concern at all. I have used my credits on my oldest account to buy premium, which I had never had before on that account. I have Lifetime on this one. I will see if the minis will give credits to my third account since I had nearly 8,000 on my oldest account and more than 11,000 on this one. I never posted very much on the other one, so it has just under 1,000 which isn’t enough to purchase Premium with credits. We’ll see if doing this “saves” my three accounts.
@beowulf222 - Thanks
@whyzat - Paying for someone with credits isn’t possible at this time, although the XangaTeam has been asked to make that option available.
@Crystalinne - I’ll post the exact method in a following comment.
@gilly_owens - In 2.0, there is no “lifetime” anymore, at least at this time. You will get transferred over as a premium member, and credited $100 from the time you joined lifetime, with $25 deducted yearly after that. So if you’ve been a lifetime member for 4 years, you’ll get no credits, if a member for two years, you’ll get a $50 credit, etc…
@emily_shannon - You’re correct, and only a portion of credits transfer using minis.
@MarksBeneathTheSkin - Xanga has received requests to allow people to purchase premium for others using their credits, but I’m not sure if they have time to make any changes. Only a portion of credits transfer with minis, so you might want to wait a few days to see if they do anything before going that route. The order of blog transfers will be, all current premium members, then all former premium members, then as many “True” members as they can.
@SoullFire - That would be nice. Because only a portion transfer (it seems like 10% of the cost of the mini – I gave one to test it), I cannot “give” enough credits to my third account to be able to purchase premium. I would have to have over 30,000 credits to do that. We’ll see what they do.
I also worry about the Lifetime thing. I purchased it not too long ago. Definitely less than four years. I read about the refunds. I can’t remember if I used Paypal or not, but if not, I know the card I would have used has expired. I know that’s a problem with issuing refunds. Wonder how they will handle issues like that? This whole thing is a big mess.
I’ve been asked the procedure on how to do this:
1) Choose Settings tab on top area of your home page
2) On left hand side, choose “Premium”
3) On right side, choose “Edit Plan”
4) Choose “Purchase Premium or Plus!”
5) Unclick the box that says “Automatically renew”
6) Select “Pay with Xanga Credits”
7) Choose your plan based on your available credits.
8) If you don’t have enough credits, it’s $4 for a month, $15 for 6 months as an alternative.
9) Press “Continue” to complete process.
@MarksBeneathTheSkin - They won’t issue a “refund” for lifetime members, but a “credit” on Xanga 2.0, so you’ll be fine.
@SoullFire - Thanks for clearing that up. Seems fairly impractical though…
@SoullFire - I think I understand that. So I get money back for every year under 4 that I had my premium account for?
@gilly_owens - Right, you get a credit applied to Xanga 2.0 for that amount.
@MarksBeneathTheSkin - @gilly_owens - Forgot to add – lifetime members also get grandfathered in at current premium rates, $25/yr.
@SoullFire - That is EXCELLENT news. Now if only I could give xanga the remaining $34,000 necessary. Haha.
But really if xanga goes under I will be extremely dejected.
I assumed it was only for those who purchased premium with $$, but The Xanga Team didn’t specify that. At this point, there isn’t anything left to lose (other than a bunch of unused credits), so I’ll give a try. Thanks for the idea.
@naughty_virgin - You’re welcome. I’m sure it will work – you can buy credits for cash, so it’s still good money equivalent.
